Bala

Bala is a 13-year-old pianist, arranger and stage performer from Hyderabad, India. His repertoire spans Pop, Rock, Jazz and Classical music, bringing together contemporary songs and timeless piano pieces with a distinctive performance style.

Piano training

Bala’s piano journey began at home, with his dad as his teacher and mentor. His training has grown through regular practice, careful study of sheet music and a strong focus on building solid musical fundamentals.

He follows a daily practice routine that includes reading and playing sheet music, technique, scales, chords, sight-reading, repertoire and working on new arrangements. His current sheet-music reading and playing ability is around Grade 8 equivalent, although his learning has developed outside a conventional graded-exam pathway.

Alongside technical training, Bala spends a lot of time exploring music that he enjoys. He learns pieces by listening, studies different arrangements and works on bringing his own interpretation to them. This combination of structured practice and curiosity has helped him develop a broad repertoire across Classical, Pop, Rock and Jazz.

For Bala, piano is not just about learning pieces. It is about understanding music, experimenting with it and gradually developing his own voice as a performer.

Beyond music, Bala enjoys activities that challenge his focus, coordination and curiosity.

Cubing

Bala is an enthusiastic speedcuber and enjoys the challenge of solving the Rubik’s Cube quickly and efficiently. His personal best for the 3×3 cube is 7.69 seconds. He enjoys practicing different solving techniques, improving his speed and trying to make each solve faster than the last.

Skateboarding

Bala enjoys skateboarding and the freedom that comes with learning new tricks and improving his balance and control. It is one of the activities he turns to when he wants to take a break from the piano and spend some time outdoors.

Basketball

Basketball is another sport Bala enjoys playing. He likes the pace of the game, the combination of individual skill and teamwork, and the energy that comes with being on the court.

Cricket & Football

Bala is also a passionate follower of cricket and football. He enjoys keeping up with matches, players and major tournaments, including the IPL, and loves discussing the game with family and friends. He is an ardent SRH fan. In football, he is a big Lionel Messi fan and follows his career and performances closely.
